Coming soon: MBO cineplexes across Malaysia

MALAYSIAN cineplex operator MCAT Box Office Sdn Bhd (MBO) plans to open a series of theatres throughout Malaysia over the next three years.

The company kickstarted the aggressive expansion plan with the announcement of its partnership with Harbour Place to build a 10-screening hall MBO Cineplex@Harbour Place, covering an area
of 40,000-sqf of the premier mall located in Klang, Selangor. Harbour Place is scheduled to open this mid-year.

“By far, it has been MBO’s strategy to target suburban locations to set up its cineplexes to tap the huge market of 18- to 35-year-olds who want to catch movies without the hassle of going into the city centre,” said MBO COO Ikmal Nizam Ariffin.

Kenny Chin, general manager of Harbour Place, said the MBO Cineplex will be located on the mall’s entertainment level on the seventh floor. Ikmal Nizam added that the cineplex will offer competitive ticket rates.
