Visa updates list of compliant
service providers
Story 10
VISA INTERNATIONAL
has compiled a new list of payment-service providers in the
Asia-Pacific that comply with the Payment Card Industry Data
Security Standards (PCI DSS).
The 84 payment-service providers on the list are those that
banks and merchants can work with across the Asia-Pacific at
industry standards believed to be the highest for the protection
of
sensitive cardholder and transaction data.
Visa updates its list twice a year based on notice from client
banks responsible for ensuring the compliance of its
payment-service providers. These service providers undergo
annual vendor
self-assessments, quarterly scans and regular audits by
qualified security assessors to be certified.
Said Peter Maher, Visa International’s executive vice-president
and general manager for risk management, Asia-Pacific: “Our
latest list has 53 more payment-service providers, compared
with last year’s. As PCI DSS has become the global de facto
security standard for all payment-service providers, those which
do not validate their compliance annually will become the
exception.
“The list functions as a guide for the industry. As more
merchants become aware of industry standards for the protection
of cardholder account and transaction data, vendors that are not
compliant with industry standards are very likely to see
merchants and banks taking
their business to other compliant service providers,” said
Maher.
