Singapore to host inaugural expo on traditional medicine
Story 7 - Preview

A new show, Traditional Medicine Expo (TMExpo), will debut in Singapore next month. TMExpo 2009 will be held at Suntec Singapore from December 4-6.

Perceived as a natural and holistic alternative to western medicine, the demand for traditional medicine
(TM) is reported to be growing in the global marketplace. According to the Singapore TCM Organisations Committee (STOC) and the Singapore TCM College, joint organisers of TMExpo
2009, the export of TM from China to South-east Asia and Asia increased by more than 150% and 80% respectively between 2004 and 2008.

In line with global trends, the import of traditional medicine and health supplements from China into Singapore increased from US$21.89 million in 2004 to US$35.65 million in 2008. The
number of locally manufactured TCM products has also increased over the years and currently stands at 34% of the 8,767 locally registered TCM products approved for sale in the market, stated
the organisers.
